Jordan Deitcher
Jordan Deitcher has been creating shows with artists and technologists from all performance and media disciplines for longer than it seems. He has directed plays Off-Broadway and at some of New York’s leading resident theatre companies, and has produced large site-specific works there and in Montreal. He is a graduate of Columbia University’s MFA Film Directing Program, and his award-winning short films have appeared in festivals all over the world.
His extensive travels have taken him to some of the more remote regions of the planet, from the High Andes and the African savannahs to the lowland jungles of New Guinea. Encounters with tribal shamans, the tellers of the tales, the liminal guides through whom healing spirits are summoned from the invisible world, have inspired the work in which he is currently engaged.
He is the co-inventor of the Emotional-Imaging Composer, a multimedia instrument that makes visible the invisible world of emotion. Translating biosignals into responsive environments in real time, it creates a rich, external manifestation of a person’s internal emotional experience. Performance is but one of the many opportunities that this new technology makes possible, the treatment of autism spectrum disorders being another.
He has also created OnePrayer, a website and app whose mission is
“To summon the prayers from so many hearts that heaven and earth
will be moved.”
